Automatic Gates in Mosman: the short answer

Fencing and Landscaping Experts provide automatic gates throughout Mosman, NSW 2088, in Mosman Council's area on the Lower North Shore. The ground here is sandstone shelf close to the surface, so posts are frequently drilled and chemically anchored into sandstone rather than concreted into a dug hole. Heritage items and conservation areas are common locally, which controls what a street-facing fence may look like. For automatic gates in Mosman, photoelectric beams and obstruction detection are fitted as standard. Per installation, including civil works and access devices. Licensed in NSW, insured to $20 million. Phone 0492 879 796.

Automatic Gates in Mosman 2088

We work on automatic gates throughout Mosman 2088. The service covers sliding and swing gate automation, motors, intercoms, keypads and the safety devices the standard requires, and in this suburb one thing shapes it more than anything else. Mosman Council's heritage and foreshore controls are among the strictest in Sydney, and foreshore building lines can restrict structures well inside a rear boundary.

An automatic gate is powered machinery on a residential boundary, so safety devices are not optional extras. We install photoelectric beams, obstruction detection and manual release as standard, and size the motor to the actual leaf weight rather than the cheapest unit that will move it. Lower North Shore driveways are typically short, steep and open straight onto a busy street, which makes sliding gates and properly configured safety beams the sensible specification over swing leaves. Sandstone sits close to the surface across much of Mosman, so posts are often drilled into rock and chemically anchored rather than concreted into a dug hole.

Working in Mosman means working with steep sandstone with rock shelf at shallow depth and significant level changes across most blocks — and with large harbour-side homes, many heritage listed, on steep and tightly held land. No two streets here price the same, which is why we quote Mosman jobs after a free on-site measure rather than off a rate card.

Local Knowledge: Mosman 2088

We work across Mosman and the surrounding Lower North Shore suburbs, and the local conditions genuinely change the job. Lower North Shore sites are tight, steep and often heritage listed. Access is usually the hardest part of the job: narrow frontages, shared driveways, harbour slopes and sandstone shelf under a shallow layer of soil.

For automatic gates specifically, the constraints that come up most often in Mosman are narrow access, sandstone shelf, foreshore building lines and heritage conservation area controls. Mosman Council is the consent authority for Mosman, so where approval is needed that is the path we work through with you — and we identify that before quoting rather than halfway through the job.

Automatic Gates Mosman FAQs

Sliding or swing gates for a Mosman driveway?

Sliding, in most Mosman cases. A swing gate needs level ground through its full arc, and on the falls typical of Mosman driveways a swing leaf will foul the ground before it is fully open. A sliding gate is unaffected by the slope of the driveway behind it.

How much does gate automation cost in Mosman?

The motor is rarely the biggest number. Cost in Mosman is driven by the gate itself, the civil work — trenching, conduit, footings, a concrete track for a slider — and how many access devices you want. Automating an existing suitable gate is far cheaper than a new automated gate and gate system together.

What happens in a power cut?

Every automatic gate we install in Mosman has a manual release so you can open it by hand, and we recommend battery backup on properties where the gate is the only vehicle access. On the Lower North Shore properties that lose power in storms, backup is worth the modest extra cost.

Is an automatic gate safe around children?

Only if it is installed correctly. A powered gate must have obstruction detection and, in most configurations, photoelectric safety beams that stop and reverse the gate. We fit those as standard on Mosman installations — a gate without them is a genuine hazard, not a saving.

Can you automate my existing gate?

Usually yes, if the gate is structurally sound, hangs square and the posts can carry the operator's loads. We assess the existing Mosman gate first and tell you honestly if automating it will simply expose a problem the gate already has. Where the frame or posts are not up to it, replacing the leaf is money better spent than a motor fighting a sagging gate.

Which parts of Mosman do you cover for automatic gates?

All of Mosman 2088, plus the surrounding streets in Cremorne, Cremorne Point, Neutral Bay, Seaforth and Cammeray. Mosman is characterised by large harbour-side homes, many heritage listed, on steep and tightly held land, and we schedule around what that means on the ground rather than booking a standard slot. We give you a firm start date with the quote rather than an open-ended window.
