Colorbond Fencing in Gregory Hills

Gregory Hills was cut into rolling ground, so almost every street has homes sitting on engineered pads at slightly different heights. Stand on a rear boundary here and you will often find the neighbouring yard is two or three courses of block higher than yours. That level change is the single biggest factor in how the fence gets built.

Where the difference is small we drop a concrete plinth under the sheet line. Where it is larger we set treated sleepers between the posts so the higher soil is properly held and the fence sits on top of a solid base rather than trying to retain the ground itself. Side setbacks on the newer Gregory Hills lots are also tight, so we plan post positions to keep the air conditioning unit, the hot water system and the downpipes clear.

We look at the levels on site, work out the base you need and put the whole thing in one fixed written quote. Call 0492 879 796 to book a free measure.

Colorbond Fencing Gregory Hills FAQs

My neighbour in Gregory Hills is higher than me. How does the fence work?

This is normal on the engineered pads through Gregory Hills. The fence itself is not a retaining wall, so the level difference has to be dealt with underneath it. For small differences we use a concrete plinth beneath the bottom rail. For anything more substantial we install treated sleepers between the posts, which retains the higher soil and gives the panels a level base to sit on. Where the difference is very large a proper engineered retaining wall is the right answer and we will tell you that up front.

Should I fence before or after landscaping?

Fence first if you can. Getting posts and panels in before the turf, paving and garden beds go down means no digging through finished work and no barrowing over new lawn. If the landscaping is already in, we protect what we can and hand dig where access is tight, but it slows the job and it is harder to get a clean line along the base of the fence.

What colours are people choosing in Gregory Hills?

Monument dominates the newer Camden area estates because it matches the dark roof and window trim on most facades. Basalt is a close second and reads slightly softer. Woodland Grey works well where the render is warmer, and Surfmist appears on the lighter coastal style homes. All are genuine BlueScope colours with the factory paint warranty behind them.

How much of the colourbond fence does my neighbour pay for?

Whether you search for colourbond or Colorbond, the legal position is the same. The NSW Dividing Fences Act 1991 says adjoining owners share the cost of a standard dividing fence equally, which normally means half each. In Gregory Hills the wrinkle is often the retaining component, because retaining the higher block is generally the responsibility of the owner whose land is being held up, not a shared fencing cost.

Can you work around the air conditioner and downpipes?

Yes. Side setbacks on newer Gregory Hills lots are narrow and the condenser unit, hot water system and stormwater downpipes are usually all on that side. We mark post positions before digging so nothing lands on a stormwater line, and we keep enough clearance for servicing. If a post absolutely has to sit close to a unit we shift the panel join rather than the boundary line.
