Slab falls and drainage paths are kept open, and the finished deck stays below the damp-proof course so the brickwork is not bridged.

If the deck is over twenty five square metres, more than one metre above ground, or closer than nine hundred millimetres to a boundary, it falls outside exempt development under the Codes SEPP. How much maintenance does a big timber deck need?
Realistically, a broom weekly, a wash a couple of times a year and a re-coat with decking oil every twelve to eighteen months.
