Common questions about pavers, installation, and care
For driveways, you need "heavy duty" pavers, typically 50-60mm thick, to withstand vehicle weight. Interlocking concrete pavers, cobbles, and dense natural stones like Granite or Bluestone are excellent choices. They are durable, resist cracking, and individual units can be replaced if stained.
Proper installation is key. We use a compacted road-base foundation and bedding sand. For the joints, we recommend "polymeric sand" (locking sand) which hardens when wetted, creating a flexible but weed-resistant seal that also stops ants.
Yes, we highly recommend sealing, especially for natural stone and light-coloured concrete pavers. Sealing protects against oil stains, food spills, and fading from UV rays. It also enhances the colour of the stone and makes cleaning much easier.
Yes, provided the existing concrete is in good condition and level. We can use a mortar bed or adhesive to fix pavers directly to the concrete (rigid overlay). This is a popular way to update old driveways or patios without the cost of demolition.
Travertine is a limestone formed in hot springs, known for its cool feel and "holes" (tumbled look), popular for pools. Sandstone is a sedimentary rock with a grainy texture and warm variations, classic for Penrith gardens. Both are excellent, but sealing is essential for Sandstone as it is more porous.
