High Security Fencing NSW

In the NSW fencing industry, "high security" typically refers to fencing systems rated to resist unauthorised climbing, cutting and impact — usually at heights of 2.4 m and above, using materials such as 358 welded mesh (wire spacing too small to climb), palisade steel with anti-rotate features, or welded mesh with razor wire extensions. The applicable Australian Standard is AS 1725.1-2010 for chain-link fabric and AS 2680 for general security of buildings.

High security fencing is commonly required for correctional facilities, police and emergency services, military and defence installations, electricity transmission substations, water and sewerage infrastructure, data centres, hospitals with psychiatric wards, schools with heightened duty-of-care requirements, and commercial/industrial sites with high-value inventory or dangerous materials.

Security fencing exceeding 2.1 m in height, or fencing incorporating razor wire or barbed wire within 3 m of a public place, typically requires a Development Application. Commercial and industrial security fencing applications may also require referral to relevant infrastructure owners or Roads and Maritime Services if within a road boundary setback. Galvanised 358 mesh fencing has a typical design life of 25–30 years in most Australian environments. In coastal or industrial corrosive atmospheres, powder-coated or stainless steel mesh is specified for extended lifespan. Palisade fencing in hot-dip galvanised finish typically lasts 20–30 years. All our commercial security fencing uses hot-dip galvanised or powder-coated finishes as standard.
