A complete barbed wire security fence line - chain wire with a barbed or razor wire topping - typically runs supplied and installed. Razor wire coils cost more than plain barbed wire. Barbed wire uses twisted galvanised strands with spaced barbs and is the standard low-cost deterrent for boundary and rural fencing. Razor wire (also called concertina) uses sharp blade-shaped barbs on a coil and is a higher-security topping for commercial and industrial sites. We install both across Sydney, usually on a 45-degree extension arm at the top of chain wire or palisade fencing.

Barbed and razor wire is permitted on commercial, industrial and rural properties in Sydney but generally must sit above 2.1 to 2.4 metres and not overhang public footpaths or neighbouring land. Many councils restrict barbed wire on residential boundaries. We install to a safe compliant height and set-back and can advise on your local council requirements before starting.

Barbed wire and razor wire toppings suit chain wire (cyclone) fencing, palisade fencing, welded mesh and 358 anti-climb mesh. We fit galvanised extension arms to the existing posts, then run three to five strands of barbed wire or a razor coil along the top. On new installs we build the full fence line and topping together for a stronger, tamper-resistant result.
